Saratoga Golf and Polo Club
This historic golf and tennis club located just outside downtown Saratoga Springs needed an update to its facilities to enhance the amenities for the membership. Balzer & Tuck were hired by the club to design a new freestanding Proshop and Pool Cabana in keeping with the historic clubhouse built in 1914. The Proshop consolidated the formerly separate retail, offices and bag storage into one structure while freeing up much needed area in the clubhouse. The outdoor pool area needed a permanent structure for food and bar service in the summer and a warm space for the platform tennis players in the winter.
Key Challenges and Solutions
- Creating two new structures that were designed to complement the existing historic clubhouse built in 1914 and be in keeping with the history and aesthetics of the property.
- Provide a dedicated Proshop space separate from the clubhouse that maximized access to the first tee and tennis courts while maintaining a connection to the rest of the club.
- Create a dual-purpose Cabana structure to support the summer pool and winter platform tennis activities.
- Create new circulation through the site for golf carts, foot traffic and vehicles that work together for ease of movement and safety.
